Sharks

Yesterday a man was attacked by a shark in Fish Hoek beach which is really close to where we live. They are still looking for the guy who was a tourist. People who saw the shark said that it was as big as a dinosaur. It was only two meters deep where he got attacked. Many beaches in False Bay are closed today. The shark spotters in False Bay have spotted up to 16 sharks in one day. No more snorkeling for me…..

Oooh. Scary, what with it being so close to home. Definitely no more snorkeling for you!

Incidentally, I love this witness description:

“It was this giant shadow heading to something colourful. Then it sort of came out the water and took this colourful lump and went off with it. You could see its whole jaw wrap around the thing which turned out to be a person.” Quoted from a Guardian article.

Apparently this shark was REALLY BIG!! Mega sized shark. I usually snorkel within about 50 meters from the shore.. now I’m a bit apprehensive about going out more than say 10 meters…

read about it in the paper too…. scary seeing that opening its mouth at the last second! we have had a few shark attacks here lately but they get covered up so the tourists dont stop coming.
